  • I always answer email faster than I return phone messages
  • I cannot respond to certain kinds of email due to pressures of time, including recruiting inquiries and questions from applicants to the graduate or undergraduate program who haven’t actually been admitted yet.
  • I’m not interested in expert witness work.

Regarding applications to attend/work at UC Berkeley

I do not control graduate or undergraduate admissions and I cannot help you get in. All of us who work here are very flattered at the level of interest we get from many students, but you must apply and be admitted through the regular process.  Once you are admitted I’d be happy to talk to you about working together, but until that time, I’m unable to respond to inquiries of the form “I want to attend graduate school under your superivision”, “It’s my dream to work at Berkeley”, “How do I become a member of your group”, and so on.

We really do appreciate the high level of interest, but time simply does not permit responding to such inquiries in any more detail than the above, so please don’t take it personally.
